Is Rodić a great finding for Malmö? Yeah i think so. Well done, MFF.

Malmö presented their newest signing Vladimir Rodić. ”Fast, powerful, hard working prospect”, that is how they described him and is basically only we know  about 21-year old midfielder.

So, who is this guy?
Vladimir Rodić (7/9/1993) comes from Belgrade, but unlike the major Serbian stars, he never played for any of two giants, Partizan or Red Star.
While most promising players from Belgrade Twins are in top sides´ radar, his FK Rad (and similar clubs) is ideal market for allsvenskan teams.

It is a poor club with almost no fan base, but solid academy – their youth teams have won 2015 Serbian title and will play next season´s UEFA Youth League, the equivalent of Champions league.
Rodić was promoted to the first team back in 2012, but was sent on loans to lower division clubs to gain experience.

He returned to Rad in fall of 2013 and since then appeared in 51 competitive match.

Was he any good last season?

Being in serious economical troubles, FK Rad was destined for relegation, but they ended up in sixth place, nearly missing Europa League spot. Rodić was one of the most important players in this surprising twist of events – he established himself as a firstteam regular, taking part in all 30 matches that Rad played, chipping in four goals.

Vladimir added three more appearances in the cup and profiled in to one of the most important squad players, attracting the interest from couple of European clubs, including (allegedly!) Atletico Madrid. However, he refused their offer to gain experience in B team and opted for Swedish champions.

MFF scouted him for long time; what have they seen to decide to bring him to Skåne?
Mostly used as a right wing – but as well by the left flank in some occasions – Rodić made his name in Serbia as being one of the fastest players in the league.
His speed and explosiveness is what differed him from others in Serbian league and what most of the  opposition struggled against.

He is a real speed bullet-Rodić has fine vision and what could be described as football intelligence; the ability to read the game and create.

He is solid in taking set pieces, including corners, something he often took care of while in FK Rad. It may sound strange to highlight that here in Sweden, but unlike many players from the Balkans,

Rodić is hard-working and true professional.

Come on, he must have some weaknesses too?
Well, first thing everyone should be aware – the overall quality of football in Serbian league drastically dropped in last 10 years and it is difficult to judge young players based on their performances there.
The “distance covered” stats often can be misleading; in Vladimir´s case speed should not be mixed with pace.
Most of his running is based on good positioning and penetration by the flanks. Speaking about this, he would probably be more dangerous if he would improve his technique with a ball.

However, as with most young players, so far he struggled the most with self-confidence. His performances oscillated, not just from match to match, but sometimes in 90 minutes as well. He can be invisible for an hour and then explode in last thirty minutes and be unstoppable.

And the conclusion would be…
Give the guy some time. Vladimir Rodić cannot be an instant solution for this season Åge´s problems. Keep in mind that he is a young player, coming from a small and poorly organised club to one of the biggest in Scandinavia.

FK Rad’s average attendance last season was less than 500; he’ll need some time to adjust to new surroundings.
Also, the style of play, mentality and approach are a lot different in Serbian league than allsvenskan – the tempo is much slower with less active play. Vladimir Rodić is a
talented footballer with potential, a lot to work with and he is willing to learn and improve.

His signing is an investment that should be threated with care and it could pay off soon.
